DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS

The Yankees are in the midst of a road trip that does not seem to be going well.  They have dropped their last three games against the Tigers, and have looked terrible in those three games.  Errors, lack of offense and baserunning mistakes have caused the losses, after solid performances by the starting pitching.  The Yankees have also had a problem scoring runs over the last three games.  They have only scored 5 runs in the past 27 innings.   This is the Yankees first trip back to Arlington since Game 6 of the ALCS, so it’s time to play hard and get some wins.  Over the last ten games the Yanks are 5-5, but they are still in first place in the AL East.
The Rangers, are returning from a series in Seattle where they lost last night and dropped 2 of 3.  The Yankees had actually arrived in Arlington prior to the Rangers game even starting in Seattle last night.  I would assume the Rangers may be a little drained with the short rest before tonight’s game.  Over the previous ten games the Rangers are only 3-7, and are currently in 2nd place in the AL West after last nights loss.
The last time both teams met was at Yankee stadium on April  15- 17.  The Yankees won  the final two games of that series after dropping the first game 5-3.  The last time the Yankees played a regular season series in Arlington was September 10-12 and the Yankees were swept in the three game series.

PITCHING MATCHUPS
Friday Night:  Ivan Nova (2-2), 5.14 ERA vs. Matt Harrison (3-3) 4.59 ERA
-Nova’s pitched into the 7th inning during his last start against Toronto, allowing only 2 runs, and getting the win.
-Nova pitched on April 15 against the Rangers and took the loss, pitching only 4 innings and allowing 4 runs on 7 hits.  This was the game the Yankees hit into 6 double plays!  Nova’s was too wild during this start which ultimately led to more walks, hit batters and more men on base.

-Harrison has lost his last three starts, after winning his first three.  His ERA in the last three starts is 11.12.  His last two starts have been terrible and couldn’t get himself out of the second inning in his last start.
-Harrison has allowed 8 runs in the first innings of his last two starts.
-Harrison pitched against Nova on April 15 and got the win.
-Arod has a .571 career batting average off Harrison

Saturday Night:  Bartolo Colon (2-1), 3.00 ERA vs. Derek Holland (3-1) 4.66 ERA
-Colon pitched 7 strong innings in his last start allowing only 3 runs against the Tigers.  The runs came from two home runs by the Tigers catcher Alex Avila.
-Colon struck out 7 batters in his last start.

-Holland lost his last start against the Athletics last week allowing 3 runs over 7 innings
-Holland’s only loss of the season came against the Yankees at Yankee stadium on April 16 when he allowed 5 runs over 8 innings
-In 7 at bats against Holland, Jeter is batting .571

Sunday Afternoon:  CC Sabathia (2-2) 2.68 ERA vs. Alexi Ogando
-CC allowed a season high 10 hits in his last start against Detroit
-CC has 19 strikeouts in his last three starts
-CC allowed four runs in 6 1/3 innings, against the Rangers on April 17.  Joba blew the lead on that game before the yanks came back to win.

-Ogando has an issue with a blister on his throwing hand and had to leave his previous start early due to the blister
-Ogando has 18 strikeouts in his last two starts
-Ogando allowed three home runs against the Yankees in his start on April 17, giving up 5 runs on the day.
